Ecological Supervision
An Ecological Working Method Statement (EWMS) is routinely neededwhere preparation and construction works could potentially affect sensitive species or habitats. An EWMS may be required as a condition of planning or as part of the Construction, Design, and Management arrangement for a construction site. The EWMS gives site contractors details of the measures that must be taken to avoid breaching wildlife legislation and contravening biodiversity planning conditions imposed by the permission.
For some sites and operations, site works may need to be supervised by an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) who can provide toolbox talks and watching briefs for specific tasks. As well as ecological knowledge, an ECoW must therefore understand construction processes and site safety, be flexible, able to communicate diplomatically at a range of levels, and think on their feet.
Our Approach
At Landmark, we take this role very seriously. Our ecologists carry Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards, or equivalent, and are First Aid qualified. These skills, together with a practical experience of a construction site, mean that we are able to help our clients to deliver development works cost-effectively and on time.
