Landmark has been working closely with Bristol City Council (BCC) Parks Services, Friends of Mina Road Park Playground and the St Werburgh’s Community Centre for a little over 6 months now.  We are very excited to see the Mina Road Park play area project gathering momentum.

Pre-appointment, the first Public Consultation was held in February 2019 which helped to inform the design brief.  Post-appointment, we have met several times with the local community group, BCC Parks Officers and gathered a medley of site information including details of the adjacent ‘Brooks Dye Works’ development that is taking shape, along with history of the park.

Our brief was to work closely with the local community to replace the existing children’s play area and multi-use games area (MUGA) (although it was understood the MUGA may be subject to a separate funding bid). This would include provision of a new children’s play area covering the age ranges of 0-12 years old and replacement of the existing facilities which are near the end of their useful life.  Through hard work and commitment to the project, the local community group have managed to secure funding for the project and we are designing to this, although all involved parties continue to look out for further additional funds where possible.

The proposed draft concepts for the play area have now been shared with the community and general public.  Following the well-attended community consultation on Mina Road Park Playground on Saturday 17 July, we are now pleased to say that we are entering an online phase of consultation to ensure we capture all voices that want to be heard.  This will be online for approximately three weeks.

The draft concepts that have been prepared are shown below (click on the images to expand).  The scheme that is taken forward will not necessarily be one or the other, but is likely to include a mixture of elements from both, plus any new additions that derive from the consultation process.

We’ll be back with updates as the project progresses.
