We are delighted that planning permission was granted in July 2026 for a series of educational enhancements at Sarum Academy, Salisbury. TLP provided both landscape architecture and ecology services throughout the project, collaborating with  Morgan Sindall and Footprint Architects from early concept design through to delivery. As a hybrid application, the development required a phased Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) strategy, carefully balancing new facilities with ecological enhancements across the site.

Working within a busy operational school presented a number of challenges, including budget constraints, day-to-day school activities and limited long-term maintenance resources. To accommodate new sports facilities, the landscape strategy included the careful relocation of a number of existing young trees to enable their retention. Through a considered tree translocation approach, TLP retained these valuable assets where possible, maximising Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) outcomes while preserving the site’s character and ecological value.

The landscape design focuses on durable, multi-functional spaces that support education, recreation and climate resilience. New green spaces combine play, seating and sustainable drainage, while science-focused outdoor areas use visible SuDS features to help students engage with environmental processes such as the water cycle. The result is a practical, attractive and biodiverse school environment that will benefit pupils, staff and wildlife for years to come.
