We’re excited to share one of our newest and most inspiring projects – the transformation of a once-derelict farm into a vibrant nature reserve and community hub and base for the Avon Wildlife Trust. This ambitious scheme will not only restore the site’s ecological value but also create a space for people to learn, explore, and connect with nature. At the heart of the project is a vision for regeneration – repairing damaged habitats, introducing new wildlife-rich landscapes, and bringing people back to the land in meaningful ways, and bring colour and function back to a series of derelict farm buildings. Plans include:
- Enhancing diverse habitats – from wildflower meadows and wetland areas to traditional orchards, supporting pollinators, birds, and other native species.
- Exploring future farming methods – Looking forward to create a climate-resilient landscape and explore community-led food production in Somerset.
- Learning & crafting spaces – designed for schools, community groups, and visitors to engage with nature through hands-on activities and workshops.
- A welcoming visitor centre – offering information, refreshments, and a base for guided walks and seasonal events. Including visitor parking and a warm welcome space.
For us, this is more than a restoration – it’s about storytelling through landscape, reimagining what this farm can be for the next generation, and an opportunity to explore the future of rural Somerset. Once a place in decline, it will soon become a beacon for biodiversity, education, and sustainable living. For our first community consultation, we have focused on the journey through the farm tracks in its current state, and how we could enhance this experience.
As the project develops, we’ll be working closely with APG Architects, and feedback from local community to ensure the design reflects both the natural character of the site, and the wider context of Somerset, and the needs of those who will enjoy it.
Stay tuned – we’ll be sharing updates as the project takes shape!
