The landmark Practice is involved in ongoing ecological monitoring and management at a wind turbine site in Avonmouth. Our most recent barn owl box checks at the site have been rewarded by the discovery of two barn owl chicks (approximately 6 weeks old in the picture above) which were then subsequently ringed by a suitably licensed bird ringer.

Barn owls have historically bred within this site but not since the wind turbines were erected (in 2013/14) and their box relocated to a quieter location within the site. It is very encouraging for all involved to find that they are, once again, breeding successfully within the site and it is evidence of how simple, low cost mitigation measures can allow wildlife and development to successfully coexist.

Our client, Thrive Renewables, have released a press release on the story which can be read here: https://www.triodosrenewables.co.uk/en/home/news/barn-owls/
