Background

The Landmark Practice was appointed in April 2015 by Cubex to provide Ecology and Landscape services for the creation of Aurora, a new commercial space at Finzels Reach in central Bristol.

Description

Finzels Reach is an approximately 2 hectare mixed-use regeneration scheme at the site of the former Courage Brewery. Located directly adjacent to the Floating Harbour and Castle Park, Finzels Reach is just a few minutes’ walk from Bristol Temple Meads station, and the Broadmead and Cabot Circus shopping centres. The development offers residential, office, retail and leisure space in a variety of accomodation from new build to converted Grade II listed buildings.

Landmark’s team provided ecological support for the scheme, undertaking baseline ecology surveys and providing reporting to accompany the planning application.  The design of the building included a distinctive rooftop terrace which makes best use of the available space and contributed to achieving the requisite credits under BREEAM.

Client Benefits

Achieving a high BREEAM score was a key aim since project inception with the scheme becoming the first office space outside of London to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating, along with the LEED Gold Standard and is the only development in the city to meet or exceed the British Council for Office design guide criteria, incorporating the maximum amount of daylight possible throughout the building.

Aurora provides almost 9000 m2 of high quality ‘Grade A’ office space within the wider Finzel’s Reach Development.
